Short Story- God Will Do He RightGod Will Do the Right At that time I was occupying a post controlling the whole district from the side of my department. When I was just out of my official car, a peon of my office came to me and wanted to talk me separately. I walked some steps towards him and with a very gentle voice, he informed me that some one has come and has already occupied my seat. Till that time I had got no information with me that I had been transferred and some one has been posted here to replace me. Immediately the officer superintendent also came out and took me aside and he too told me that some other officer had been posted and he has already occupied the seat. But uptil that time the new officer had not called him to prepare his charge taking over report. During the last two three years, I had got at least four transfers when some people having approaches could take my station and I was given another station which was never a station of my choice. So I took it easily and accompanied my office Superintendent to my office room. The man on the seat got up, came towards me and by bowing, he touched my feet. Then we both had a warm embrace. We both shook hands and then we both took seats, I took my office seat and the other man took a seat opposite to me. This man was not a new officer. He was my cousin brother. He laughed a while and then said, “Brother, I took your seat. I had a great desire to become an officer. But I could not attain so much heights. I am still a taxi driver in Bombay. Today I could get an opportunity to sit on the chair of a gazetted officer and I actually sat therefor half an hour. I could fulfill my life-long desire. I listened to him and also gave a responsive smile. My cousin remained with me for one hour. We took tea and had a long talk about the well being of other members in the families from each side. He accepted my invitations and promised that he would be staying with me for two days. My officer superintendent came to me and he wanted to have all facts of the present day events. I told him the whole story like this, “When we migrated from the side of Pakistan, I lost my grand father and father both at Rawalpindi and therefore, our mother was the only elder member in our family to look over us. All relatives left us because the themselves were not in a position to take over all the responsibilities of six people in the family, one mother, four sons and one daughter. The things did not end here, even claim for properties left behind in Pakistan could not be submitted by our mother because she was not having all the knowledge properties left behind in Pakistan She had got some knowledge about the present house where we were living and therefore, she could get a very small amount as refugee claim. For the other properties the other three uncles filed claim claiming therein that they were the only three claimants and there was no more to file this claim. And they actually got a handsome amount against that claim. From somewhere I could get some information. I approached the Custodian Department and informed one of the officers posted there that my three uncles had submitted a wrong claim and therefore, our share may be ascertained and given to us. Two of my uncles had already taken their share and one was in the army was late because he had one month more to come on annual leave and he had already submitted an application for keeping the payment pending. An order was passed to stay the payment to that uncle. When that uncle came on leave, he approached the Custodian Department for release of his payment. He was informed that some one has filed an application against the claim. He could get complete information and could trace my name too. I was just of 16-17years. He approached me, but I did not agree. Then he approached our mother and since she was in service as a class IV employee in a remote village, my uncle took her to the town. He called a sardar of our side and put the claim before him. He started explaining his position. My mother had been listening to all that. Before the sardar of the area could give his verdict, my mother closed down the chapter by saying, Rab Hore Desi—God will give us more,’ Rab sab theek karsi—God will do the right.” And I also kept silent and I want to the office and withdraw my complaint.” My officer Superintendent could not understand all this and was not in a position to connect the present episode with all this previous story. I started explaining him, “My mother is no more in this world. But still I am recalling her words-God will give us more, God will do the right. My uncle who filed wrong claim and got the wrong benefits could raise his children upto the level of taxi drivers and the sons of my mother could achieve heights in life.” While going out, my office superintendent said, “Sir, your mother was great. She had belief in God and God actually come down on this earth and helped you to attain heights. From today, I shall also start believing in God.” ------------------
